founding story

“Hey, do you know where I can get a shammy to dry my car?”

It was my third day in LA. I had just moved to the city during the pandemic, and I was having the worst day, oblivious to the divine intervention that was about to happen. Minding my own business, cleaning out my rental car, mask on, a guy, also in a mask, walked up and asked me where to get a shammy to dry his car.

I helped him grab a couple of towels from one of the dispensers and then asked if I could see his car. He had a cool old Jeep, and when we got to it he crumpled up the towel and started wiping back and forth on the hood - which I then kindly stopped him and showed him how to gently dry the car without scratching the paint. He liked that I did this, and started asking me questions: where I just moved from, how I knew so much about cars, etc. I told him I’ve been a car enthusiast since childhood, and this passion led me to work for Volkswagen in Germany for nearly a decade straight out of college.

That got him started on all the issues he was having with his Jeep – it kept dying in traffic, would refuse to start, and in general a real pain, although he loved it. He didn’t know who to trust to fix it as he kept getting taken advantage of by every shop he and his team went to. We talk for over an hour, and at some point, I lowered my mask to properly introduce myself, and so did he: Turns out, the guy is a hip-hop artist I had been listening to since 2011.

Before I could say anything else he told me we’re going to work together, and soon after a member of his team arrived and says I’m going to help them with his cars. I pleaded with him that I wasn’t a mechanic or a shop, and all he said was: you’ll figure it out. The next day his broken Mercedes was in my possession, and the first project car began.

Fast forward years later – that meeting at the car wash turned into a business serving those just like him that need help with their cars – From taking care of their day to day needs, maintenance, to full-blown project cars and restoration projects, 830WEDNESDAY has all the bases covered when it comes to cars.
