founding story

When I first landed in LA during the pandemic, I didn’t expect a trip to a self-serve car wash to change my life. I was cleaning out my rental car, mask on, minding my own business when a guy, also in a mask, with an old Jeep walked up to me and asked, “Hey, do you know where I can get a shammy to dry my car?”

I helped him grab a couple of towels from one of the dispensers and then asked if I could see his Jeep. When we got to the Jeep he crumpled up the towel and started drying it - which I then kindly stopped him to show him some tips on how to dry the car without scratching the paint. We started talking, and he asked me how I knew so much about cars. I told him I had been working on cars since I was a kid, and that eventually led me to spend nearly a decade with Volkswagen in Germany. Cars are kind of my thing.

That got him started on all the issues he was having with his Jeep—dying in traffic, refusing to start, and generally being a pain. He didn’t know what to do or who to trust to fix it as he kept getting taken advantage of by every shop he went to. We ended up chatting for over an hour, and at some point, I figured we should introduce ourselves properly. I lowered my mask, and so did he. Turns out, this guy is a hip-hop artist I had been listening to since 2011. Before I could say anything else he said, “Hey so, we’re going to work together.”

Long story short, the next day one of his Mercedes was sitting at the place I worked at the time, with a list of things needing to be repaired and modified. Fast forward a few years: he and I are still working together on various cars that he loves.

Right then and there, at that self-car wash, on a random Wednesday night at 8:30, 830Wednesday was born. Taking my expertise for cars to find the right experts for the job, and getting the job done right the first time.
